HILL HOUSE HOME

COLLABORATION

IN HIS SEMINAL TEXT “ON THE SHORTNESS OF LIFE," THE ANCIENT ROMAN PHILOSOPHER SENECA REFLECTED UPON THE ETERNAL STRUGGLES OF HUMANITY AND CANONIZED A ROSTER OF UNCOMFORTABLE REALITIES (AS TRUE TODAY AS THEY WERE IN 50 A.D.), INCLUDING: “THEY LOST THE DAY IN EXPECTATION OF THE NIGHT AND THE NIGHT IN FEAR OF THE DAWN."

Contextualized within Seneca’s manuscript, the statement speaks to a restless fear or anticipation of the future that prevents individuals from living in the moment, thus allowing life's joys to pass sans ceremony. Contextualized alongside the sumptuous wares of Hill House Home, a modern lifestyle brand specializing in bedding, however, the declaration takes on a slightly different but still profound meaning – e.g., owners of Hill House Home’s premium quality Italian-woven, French-cut sheets spend every moment out of bed anticipating their return, and every moment in bed in dread of their exit. In the end, it’s a worthy battle of philosophies and both maxims hold strong. After all, there are few things as precious as Seneca’s wisdom and a dreamy night is one of them. To celebrate the launch of Hill House Home, Double or Nothing collaborated with the brand to create custom editorial content and also asked its founder, Nell Diamond, to curate a playlist and put together some images inspired by that covetable commodity: sleep.
