candidate OR KID
LIFE'S TRUTHS, WE ARE OFTEN TOLD, COME "OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES," A REASSURINGLY PRIMARY IDEA THAT MANY OF THIS YEAR'S PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES HAVE TAKEN TO HEART, EITHER BY ESPOUSING ELEMENTARY SOLUTIONS TO COMPLEX GLOBAL PROBLEMS OR BY SPEAKING (AND BICKERING) AS THOUGH THEY ARE IN THE SCHOOL YARD, RATHER THAN ASPIRING TO BECOME COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF.
Here, adults and children read quotes from both kids and candidates, and attempt to deduce the author. The results, while amusing, aren't entirely reassuring. After all, the aforementioned proverb dates back to around 1400 BC. Today's nuanced and sticky world requires the listening and problem-solving skills of at least a teenager – although an adult would be preferred.
