WHAT IS NEW WAVE FEMINISM? CURATOR BRITTANY NATALE EXPLORES THIS QUESTION IN THE ART SHOW, “TEEN DREAM." FEATURING THE WORK OF YOUNG, FEMALE-IDENTIFYING ARTISTS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 13 AND 21, THE SHOW ADDRESSES WHAT IT MEANS TO GROW UP FEMALE TODAY, TOUCHING ON ISSUES AS VARIED AS MENTAL HEALTH, RELATIONSHIPS, FAMILY DYNAMICS, PERIODS AND REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS. BUILDING UPON THE WORK OF GENERATIONS OF WOMEN BEFORE THEM, WHO DEFIED CULTURAL EXPECTATIONS AND EXPANDED THE FEMINIST NARRATIVE, THE ARTISTS IN THE SHOW ARE ALSO BROADENING THE DISCOURSE, CHAMPIONING EQUALITY OF RACE, RELIGION, WEIGHT, SKIN TONE, CLASS AND ABILITY.
Along with a portfolio of images from the show, Brittany has shared the music and animations of women and girls who embody the spirit of Teen Dream.
