VALENTINE FILLOL-CORDIER
INTERVIEW
PhotographED IN LONDON
by Skye Parrott
IN ANCIENT GREEK MYTHOLOGY, THERE EXISTED NINE MUSES WHO RULED OVER THE ARTS AND SCIENCES. THE DAUGHTERS OF ZEUS, KING OF THE GODS, AND MNEMOSYNE, THE PERSONIFICATION OF MEMORY, EACH OFFERED INSPIRATION IN HER RESPECTIVE REALM: EPIC POETRY, HISTORY, EROTIC POETRY, MUSIC, TRAGEDY, HYMNS, DANCE, COMEDY OR ASTRONOMY. TODAY’S MUSES ARE MORE MULTIFACETED. THEY MELD THE AFOREMENTIONED ARTISTIC AND ACADEMIC SPHERES (AND MORE) INTO AN ALCHEMIC ESSENCE THAT BOTH EXPRESSES AND INSPIRES CREATIVITY ACROSS COUNTLESS MEDIUMS.
Valentine Fillol-Cordier is among these stirring shape-shifters. Born and raised in Paris, she officially became a muse at 14, when she began modeling. By 16, Valentine was styling shoots, soon seamlessly expanding into roles as a creative consultant, fashion editor and designer, while still a model and stylist. Along the way, the now London-based creator has collaborated with artists ranging from Juergen Teller to Charlotte Olympia to Charles Anastase and myriad publications, such as Vogue, Purple, Dossier, Interview and more.
